Colin Stüssi puts himself in position with ninth place on the second stage of the Tour of Austria – Alexander Konychev and Dominik Amann have bad luck with crashes

After today, many riders have to nurse their wounds. Unfortunately, this also affected Alexander Konychev, who crashed twice, and Dominik Amann. Colin Stüssi finished a super strong ninth on today’s second stage from Maria Taferl to Steyr over 184.5 kilometers as the best Continental rider. This puts him in position for the overall classification, as many of his rivals lost time in the hectic finale.

Mass crash and race interruption after just a few kilometers
The Lower Austrian idyll was over after just ten kilometers. A serious mass crash prevented the peloton from continuing as all the emergency services had to attend to the injured. This also affected the two Team Vorarlberg pros Alexander Konychev and Dominik Amann. Fortunately, only material was broken. They were able to continue the race after a longer neutral phase.

Stüssi sprints to ninth place in Steyr after a strong team performance – Konychev has to go down again
On the final lap over the Porscheberg, Colin Stüssi holds his own with the best and finishes ninth in the sprint of twenty top riders. He was driven perfectly up the mountain by his team colleagues. The winner today from Team INEOS-Grenadiers Brandon Smith Oliveira. Second Martin Marcellusi (ITA / Bardiani CSF), third the Belgian Xandro Meurisse (Alpecin-Deceuninck). Jannis Peter and Lukas Rüegg follow in the second smaller group.

Alexander Konychev had to take a lot of punishment today. The smart Italian had to go down again in the finale and had to be treated. But will be able to continue the race.

Colin Stüssi is now 13th overall, just a few seconds behind today’s stage winner.

Friday, an intensive working day!
Tomorrow the first difficult stage with many meters of altitude from the World Championship town of Schladming over 153 kilometers to St. Johann Alpendorf. A first test of strength between the overall classification riders is expected!
