It was a hot ride at the Ronde van de Achterhoek with start and finish in Neede! The UCI 1.2 race was truly new territory for the Team Vorarlberg pros. 195 kilometers – no elevation gain – constant changes in direction – lots of wind and above all 19 gravel sections, all at race pace against numerous specialists.
After the neutralized start of the race, a leading group was able to break away from the field after a crash. A few kilometers before the first finish, this group was caught by the decimated peloton.
Strong team performance despite the new terrain!
Lukas Meiler and Lukas Rüegg pushed hard at the front of the field and tried to decimate the field further.
On the last small lap in Neede with numerous direction changes and gravel passages, an eleven-man leading group was able to break away from the competition and take the day’s victory among themselves.
Stian Rosenlund from Team Airtox – Carl Ras won the sprint of the day. Lukas Rüegg and Lukas Meiler finished as the best Team Vorarlberg riders in the first chasing group.
Summary: Team Vorarlberg loves the mountains, but Colin Stüssi, Dominik Amann, Lukas Rüegg, Felix Stehli, Lukas Meiler, Jon Knolle and Pirmin Benz will be talking about this race and taking new experiences home with them for a long time to come!
