Colin Stüssi and Lukas Meiler defended their top positions achieved in the prologue on the first stage of the Rhodes Tour (UCI 2.2) from Rhodos to Maritsa (148 km) on Friday. Thanks to a time credit in the second sprint classification, Stüssi reduced his gap to leader Andre Drege (Team Coop Repso/Nor) from seven to four seconds. Lukas Meiler is still seven seconds behind in third place. The best Team Vorarlberg racer at the sprint finish was Lukas Ruegg in eleventh place. Stüssi later managed to escape with Artem Schmidt (Hagens Bermen Jayco), but the two were caught by the peloton 15 km before the finish.

“Our goal was clear: we wanted to get Stüssi into position before the second sprint classification to get the time credit. We succeeded as we had planned,” said the sports director of Team Vorarlberg after the finish, expressing his satisfaction.

On Saturday, the second stage from Rhodes town to Kalithies will cover 158.6 kilometers. A sprint decision is expected before the overall victory is decided on Sunday in the difficult final stage.
