You could already feel something yesterday, the controlled riding towards the queen stage on Saturday. The sixth stage today, Wednesday, from Braganca to Boticas – one of the rivals was above all “Mr. 35 degrees Celsius”!
Colin Stüssi takes a second in the first intermediate sprint. Then a crash at the front of the field. The 23-year-old Jannis Peter, 19th overall and Stüssi’s noble helper, finds himself far into the green. Peter is able to continue the race, but receives medical attention at the finish. Halfway through the race, a strong 10-man group breaks away.
Stüssi attacks on the last climb and sprints to fourth place
20 kilometers before the finish, Colin Stüssi attacks from the peloton. Only the overall leader Eulalio Afonso is able to follow. The Swiss rider rides everything from the front and catches every breakaway except for the Russian Artem Nych (Team Sabgal-Anicolor), who celebrates a solo victory. A thrilling chase to the finish. The chasers close up on the last kilometer. The sprint for second place was won by the overall leader Afonso. Colin Stüssi finishes fourth and has revealed his cards today with this tour de force.
Portuguese rider Eulalio Afonso (Team ABTF Betao) continues to lead the overall standings. Colin Stüssi in second place, 21 seconds behind. Third is the Spaniard Jon Agirre from the Spanish UCI Pro Team Kern Pharma.
