Emanuel Zangerle wins the mountain jersey at the 61st GP Gippingen UCI 1.1 after a great race – Team Vorarlberg non-stop to the altitude training camp in East Tyrol

The exquisite start list with countless top stars from the World Tour foreshadowed the course of the race. As expected, the final of the 174-kilometer race turned into a super tough elimination race at over 30 degrees. Jannis Peter had to withdraw from the race at short notice after a tooth operation.

Emanuel Zangerle – man of the day and winner of the mountain classification
The Tyrolean did not wait long for what he had planned. Zangerle attacked very early on in the race and was ultimately able to break away with four other pros. He took all the mountain prize points and secured this overall classification. He was dropped 70 kilometers before the finish by the horrendous pace of the Lidl-Trek, Red Bull Bora-hansgrohe and Tudor teams. BUT Zangerle was able to stay in the first group as the last Continental rider until the last lap.

Only then was it time for the โ€œZangiโ€. More than a great test of talent for the 24-year-old Team Vorarlberg pro. He finished this classic in 30th place.

The winner was the American Neilson Powless (EF Education-Easypost) ahead of the Belgian Thibau Nys (Lidl-Trek) and the Swiss Jan Christen (UAE-Emirates).
